Adolescent HIV Prevention ECHO

SBHA recently concluded an eight month virtual learning opportunity for primary care providers in SBHCs. The goal of the Adolescent HIV Prevention ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) was to reduce Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) acquisition risk for adolescents, particularly those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) or gender non-conforming (GNC).

Led by a panel of expert faculty and Alliance staff, over twenty-five SBHC providers from across the country explored clinical best practices and policies that examined the social determinants of HIV risk, the effects of mental health and substance use disorders on risk behavior, and the role of an affirming clinic and school climate.
