During the past two years, members of staff at the Centers for Disease Control’s Community Guide have systematically reviewed the literature describing the effectiveness of school-based health centers (SBHCs). The Community Preventive Services Task Force (an independent panel of public health and prevention experts) has recommended SBHCs as an effective intervention for improving health equity and influencing health and educational outcomes.
While we’ve observed all along how effective SBHCs can be, this recommendation by a distinguished panel of health experts will help increase awareness about and encourage the growth of the school-based health care model.
